The former Franklin Elementary School site transformed into a public, community park. Franklin Park opened in July 2018. The park was created with funding from The Van Wert County Foundation, Scott & Nikki Niswonger, and Van Wert City Parks & Recreation.
Hiestand Woods Park, established in 1945, boasts a park area & nature preserve. Over the years construction of shelter houses, a playground, and paths in the nature preserve have created a truly special place. A multi-year, multi-phase project plans to modernize and update facilities, add amenities, and create connectivity to Reservoir Trails while preserving the natural elements of the woods.
